Watford on the International Tourism Map

Published on: 6th March 2015   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Watford was showcased as a number one destination for tourism this weekend, as international buyers came to the town to see firsthand the town’s strengths. MP Richard Harrington hosted the guests, meeting them at the Warner Brothers site in Leavesden on the day, and giving them an introduction and overview of the benefits of working and doing business in Watford – and how it is a prime space for business as well as Tourism. Richard said: “This was a great opportunity to showcase our town and there were buyers from countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Brazil – all seeing how much we have to offer here in Watford for visitors. “Tourism is a significant part of our local economy, both in terms of job creation, but also from visitors to places such as Warner Brothers investing in other local businesses during their stay. We saw bookings for local hotels rocket once the Harry Potter experience opened, so guests do stay and spend money in our local economy. There is a reason why companies such as Hilton International are based in Watford, because we have an awful lot to offer, and this a growing sector for us. This was one of the reasons why the new UTC specialised in tourism and hospitality, we have a strong and growing local tourism and creative industry which is creating more and more jobs. “Speaking to buyers, travel agents and tour operators here today, I do think they really saw what a great destination Watford is and hopefully it will lead to a further boost for the town over the coming months.” The MP also praised Visit Britain for their work in delivering the event, and helping to showcase the experiences that Watford has to offer. Businesses including British Travel were among the attendees at the Leavesden event.
