There was cause for celebration as Aldenham Park Run reached its first birthday. More than 50 runners and volunteers took part in the event which saw Shenley resident Michael McEnhill win the coveted first prize. Mr McEnhill, of Cedar Cottage, won the men’s annual points competition, describing the achievement as “awesome”. He added: “Sometimes the business of life gets in the way of sport, and later on people come to think, ‘I could have been good at one or other sport’, and rather regret not getting involved. “Along comes Park Run, free to everybody, only basic need of a T-shirt, shorts and trainers to take part, so why not?” With his army and outdoors background giving him a good grounding for the sport, Michael says the best thing about the run is getting out of the house, mixing with like-minded people and getting to see the countryside. Or as Michael puts it: “You get to see the beauty all around you when you are not whizzing around in a four by four gas guzzler, using up your carbon footprint. Hear what else Michael had to say, and more, in the September edition of My Radlett & Shenley News, which will be distributed on August 26.
