A football club in Radlett may be forced to shut due to poor drainage unless funds can be raised to save the pitch.
Belstone FC, which is based on the corner of Butterfly Lane and Watling Street, has a major issue with the youth pitch used by the under 16s, under 15s, under 14s and under 13s. Jeremy Pepper, who coaches the under 13s team that his twin sons, Ed and George play for, told My News Magazine that something needs to be done drastically if the youth teams are to continue. He said: “The hard work and commitment of the players, coaches and parents is consistently being undermined by the fact that the youth pitch has no proper drainage. “In fact the pitch was a ploughed field four years ago, and while when dry it is one of the best surfaces in local football, as soon as it rains it is unplayable. This means that for the second season running there have been very few games played on it from December until the end of February, which makes consistency in playing and winning harder than ever. “The cost of this project is between £5,000 and £10,000, which for a club this size is a huge amount of money, particularly as it needs to be raised within the next two months. “The club is seeking a headline sponsor for the youth section which will enable the drainage work to be completed before the start of the season 2015/16 and will be a massive help towards getting games on throughout the winter.
