More riots at The Mount

Riot-trained staff were sent to The Mount in Bovingdon, Hemel Hemsptead, on Monday, July 31 amid reports of violence on two wings.

The riot team arrived at the jail at around 6:30pm equipped with shields and batons. Emergency services were also on standby outside the prison.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Specialist prison staff resolved an incident involving a number of prisoners at HMP The Mount on Monday evening. There were no injuries to staff or prisoners.

“The offenders responsible will be referred to the police and could spend longer behind bars.”

However, it seems there may be more trouble brewing at the site.

At 2:05pm on Tuesday, August 1, Richard Ford, Home Correspondent at The Times, tweeted: “Reports that further trouble has broken out at Mount jail near Hemel Hempstead.”
