School children across Harrow took part in The Mayor’s Poetry competition for Remembrance Day.

On October 22, the Mayor of Harrow Cllr Ajay Maru, portfolio holder for children, schools and young people, Cllr Simon Brown, Harrow Council’s Education Professional Lead Patrick O’Dwyer and Cllr Christine Bednell judged hundreds of entries, from which they chose a winner from each of the three categories – Infant, Junior and Secondary.  Winning poems endorsed by former Children’s Laureate, Michael Rosen. Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Ajay Maru said: “Firstly I would like to say well done to everyone who took part and congratulate the winners. It was a difficult task choosing the winners as all the poems were of a high standard. Through the art of poetry, they have shown how important it is to remember the fallen, and the horrors of war. I look forward to hearing the winning poets reading their poems on Remembrance Sunday.
