Goals in each half from Shane Long and Dušan Tadic condemned the Hornets to a disappointing 2-0 defeat on the South Coast at St Mary’s. Long netted the first in the opening 17 minutes with a fine headed goal that beat a despairing dive from Heurelho Gomes. Tadic then came off the bench to double the home team’s advantage as he kept his cool to slot past the Brazilian keeper midway through the second half. In truth, the Hornets rarely got going in this encounter, as the Saints cruised to a comfortable Premier League victory.
