Watford returned to winning ways after coming out on top against Aston Villa in a five goal thriller at Villa Park. Odion Ighalo nudged home to give Watford the lead after 17 minutes but the hosts were level before the break after Micah Richards’ header made the score 1-1 at the break. The Hornets were dealt a blow when goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes had to be replaced due to a head injury before an Alan Hutton own goal and Troy Deeney put Watford 3-1 up with minutes lefty to play. However, a late Jordan Ayew shot found the corner to give Villa hope but they could not equalise despite more than 10 minutes of injury time being played. Watford move up to 11th place in the table having picked up 19 points in 14 games.
