Flash floods cause nightmare for Edgware residents

Published on: 20th October 2017   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Following the excessive downpour yesterday, Edgware experienced bad flooding, which led to power lines being brought down. On August 26 heavy down pours saw many roads, gardens and car parks being submerged by water, which is the worst they have seen in 60 years. With regards to flooding on Edgware High Street, local resident Sharen Dann said: “This should class as a warning to Barnet council. The drains need working on before the autumn rains really kick in.” Flooding due to heavy rain has led to a busy afternoon for London’s firefighters and control officers, between 1.30pm and 4.30pm control officers had received over 110 flood-related calls. The highest volume of calls were from concerned people in north London, including Edgware, where there were calls to people trapped in cars and underpasses. Incidents included several properties being flooded on one road in Harrow and a person trapped with a newborn baby in a home. The Brigade has a range of equipment which can be used to help rescue people trapped by flood water, pump water away and protect properties. The water went down at around 7pm, however the extent of damage is unknown. Were you affected by the floods? Email leigh@mynewsmag.co.uk
