The chaotic Christmas period poses a new experience for Watford boss Quique Flores; as the Premier League newcomer was accustomed to a winter break whilst coaching in Spain. Despite the challenges presented to Flores he embraces the formidable Winter test . He said: “I think it’s better without a break.” The Watford manager puts this down to the enjoyment for fans throughout the Christmas period in the Premier League, and mentioned it as an important time for family. “Family is key, where kids and parents attend the stadium together,” Flores added. Flores acknowledged his inexperience regarding managing without a Christmas break. He commented: “It’s new for me, but I should imagine the most important thing for the players is recuperation between matches, which is something I will focus on.” Leading into Watford’s weekend fixture against Norwich, Flores has doubts regarding the fitness of goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, after watching his keeper and defender Craig Cathcart collide in Watford’s win over Aston Villa. The Watford manager believes it will be difficult to create chances against Norwich, in a match where in-form forwards Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo could make the difference. Flores believes the two players have a very good connection, and with Deeney’s restored confidence from his goal against Villa, the manager will be hoping his forward can maintain his form. Flores began his career at Spanish side Valencia and eventually went back to manage them. Valencia’s recent appointment of Gary Neville as head coach was considered a shock to many, however the Hornets boss remains hopeful that the Englishman will be a success. He said: “I Hope Gary is able to recuperate the harmony between fans, club and results.” “It’s not about nationality, it’s about knowledge, attitude, management and leadership.” However he believes learning the language is an essential part of winning the hearts of players and fans, adding: “It’s Important for Gary to learn Spanish, because the fans want to see you interested in the culture. He needs to get the hearts of players.”
