A remarkable season saw Abbots Langley based Evergreen Ladies win promotion to Herfordshire and Bedfordshire Division 2 after a strong display saw them finish the campaign in second place. The side looked class for much of the season and unbeatable at times, winning 15 out of their 18 games, and marking the team’s strongest season to date. Evergreen Ladies came about when a group of friends decided to take the challenge of going it alone and building a team. From breaking away from a local rival team and starting out with nothing except a single football, it has taken drive and determination to have built such a successful team, with only a few originals remain from starting out over five years ago and with many new faces and fresh boots on the field the team is stronger and better than ever. The ladies fought right to the end when they took 30 people by coach to their last game of the season away at Luton to witness them securing there promotion with a 3-1 win against Ickneid Ladies. The team then made their way back to the club house where they were welcomed with champagne and begun their celebrations which lasted until the early hours of the morning. Team captain, Becks Freeman, said: “It’s going to be a tougher season next year but we feel we have a strong team and we’re all just looking forward to being on the field with a bunch of great friends.”
