Charities Fair At Edgegrove School

Children from Edge Grove and Fair Field Junior School in Radlett had the opportunity to meet and learn about a number of charitable organisations at the first Edge Grove Charities Fair last week. The pupils from both schools spent time talking to a whole range of local, national and international charities as diverse as Beat Bullying, Choices 4 All, Barnardo’s, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Christian Aid, Save the Children and Guide Dogs for the Blind. ‘The charities taught us all sorts of things that we didn’t know and left us feeling really interested in doing what we can to help them,’ said one pupil. Another pupil has already asked if she can volunteer with Choices 4 All, a training provider that works with individuals, aged 18 years and over, who have learning disabilities and difficulties. The school has also decided to support Peace Hospice and Guide Dogs for the Blind next year but will be thinking hard about what other events it can get involved in to support the many charities that attended the Fair. Laura Kenny, head of the Charities Committee at Edge Grove, said: “It was a great success.” “The children were so interested in what the charities’ representatives had to say and the speakers were brilliant with the children, really engaging them in their work. It wasn’t an easy event to put together but we would definitely like to do it again and hope to get even more schools and charities to attend next time.”
