Bovingdon Market has been given the green light to move, despite objections from the village’s parish council. In a meeting of Dacorum Borough Council’s Development Control Committee on April 9, the committee decided to approve the market moving from one runway on Bovingdon Airfield to another. A report from the meeting said: “The proposed relocation of Bovingdon Market is considered to have an acceptable impact in terms of the openness of the Green Belt and the visual amenity of the wider landscape. “Importantly, the application seeks to take the opportunity to improve the appearance of the airfield site, through the creation of large, new soft landscaped areas. “Measures will be put in place to control the issue of litter being spread around and outside the site, while there would be no significant harm caused to the amenities of surrounding residential proposals arising from this relocation. “It is considered that the proposed access and egress arrangements would have no negative consequences on the safe and free flow of traffic in the locality.” Wendy Fair Markets, who have operated from the site since the 1970s, said the move from the east/west runway to the north-east/south-west runway will provide better parking facilities and is closer to the village, which will encourage people to walk there.
