Detectives investigating a robbery at a Tesco store yesterday in Watford have released a cctv image and appealing for witnesses and information. At around 3.50am yesterday (Saturday, December 5) four men entered Tesco Extra in Lower High Street, Watford, and stole a large quantity of cigarettes after threatening staff. They then managed to get away and were witnessed driving off in a Volkswagen Golf. Two members of staff were injured during the incident and were treated at Watford General Hospital for minor injuries. Detective Sergeant Matthew Waylett is investigating and said: “We have a good description of the vehicle and of the offenders, I’m appealing for any information about the vehicle which will be quite distinctive due to damage caused during the robbery. The back window was smashed and damage done to the body work at the rear of the vehicle. “We’d like to speak with anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything. Any information, however seemingly insignificant, could prove very useful to our investigation.” Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact DS Waylett via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 156 of the 5 December. Alternatively, you can contact the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will never need to go to court.
