A unique opportunity for Watford teens

Harrington at Anchor Residential (6)Teenagers from Watford are being offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get involved with the National Citizen Service (NCS) this year.

More than 130,000 young people have taken part nationally so far, and every 15 to 17-year old from the area is being given the chance to sign up. The NCS programme equips teenagers with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Richard Harrington, MP for Watford, would like to see local teenagers getting involved. He said: “I’m a huge supporter of NCS because I have seen what a positive effect it can have on young people. “Last year I attended a charity fashion show set up to raise money for Peace Hospice Care. Watford teens on NCS organised the entire event and I was incredibly impressed; each team member played a key role and it was a great success. “I was very proud to open the show for these dedicated teenagers who had given up their own time, not only to raise money for a great cause, but to learn new skills that will help them now and in the future.” Watford’s next NCS programme will take place during the February half term. It will involve a three day trip to an outward bounds centre, where young people will complete a series of exciting outdoor challenges. Teenagers will then be invited to attend a range of local workshops where they’ll develop skills that employers and universities really value; with the number of applications for entry level roles doubling to 92 since 2013, it is the perfect opportunity for teens to stand out on their CVs. The programme ends with a group project that young people must design and deliver to benefit their local community. They can take something they feel passionate about and design their project to support it. Places for the programme are filling up fast. For more information about how to get involved, visit www.ncsyes.co.uk or contact the NCS East Team on 0845 460 7410.
